Gabriel Group Creates Purpose for Its Associates While Funding Relief Efforts in Haiti
Corporate giving is a continuous activity at Gabriel Group, a marketing resource management company headquartered in St. Louis. In December 2007, Gabriel and associates donated the funds to build a water well for the village of Las Yayitas, Dominican Republic. In December 2008, they donated money to build four homes in Haiti. In January 2010, Gabriel challenged their associates to offer assistance for the Haitian catastrophe with a dollar-to-dollar matching incentive program, which has well exceeded $30K to date.
According to Dave Hawkins, Executive Vice President, "Business is not just about profit at Gabriel. Creating purpose within our organization is part of our culture. Two examples: The first part of every dollar of profit is given to charitable organizations. Part of Gabriel Group's mission is to help make the world a better place. Secondly, fundraising is a large segment of our business; we help our clients raise money for less fortunate children, for women in crisis, education for those who can't afford it, medical research, and more. And in doing these things, our associates have purpose in their lives and their work."
"We are deliberate about the organizations we choose," said Bill Ziercher, Chairman and Vision Leader. "Key criteria include reviewing an organization's annual report, checking Charity Navigator or ECFA, and aligning our charitable intents with the organizations we support. Recently, we sent a check within 24 hours of the Haitian earthquake to a nonprofit organization that responded immediately to the disaster. This organization, with the highest Charity Navigator ratings, already had a significant presence in Haiti and within hours of the earthquake, was delivering, via helicopter, basic emergency medical supplies like needles and thread for suturing."
